Hunting missionaries

Caption: Hunting missionaries with their trophy. In 1879, the White Fathers arrived in the kingdom of Buganda, in the Great Lakes region and in the next years, the missions would flourish in Uganda. The picture probably dates back to 1910. A herd of elephants devastated the crops of a village near the border with Rwanda. The local population came to the missionaries for help and they shot down an elephant, which provided food in abundance for the village.
